Our cat has been a patient of Home Vets London for his whole life. Not having to take him to the vets (which he finds stressful) is an enormous relief for all of us. Dr Jose and the team are very patient, kind and caring — we couldn't recommend them enough.
Kat Mackenzie
They look after my mother's 21-year-old cat and are always efficient, responsive and lovely with them both. The vet is patient with the cat and completely considerate and thoughtful. Recommended!
Liz Fox

China pet import rules

China's GACC rules are strict — missing one document sends your pet into quarantine.

To bring a pet into mainland China, GACC customs require an Export Health Certificate (EHC 8902) issued by an Official Veterinarian in the UK, a valid rabies vaccination, a functioning ISO microchip and a copy of the owner's passport. Documents must be issued within specific time windows before travel — and only certain ports of entry accept live pets.

Important: the rabies antibody titre test (RNATT) is NOT required to enter China — a valid rabies vaccination is enough. The titre test is only needed if you later want to bring your pet back from China to the UK, because China is a non-listed country under the UK pet travel scheme. If a return to the UK is even a possibility, we strongly recommend doing the RNATT blood test with us BEFORE you leave the UK: taken here in a listed country, the result stays valid for life (with rabies boosters up to date) and your pet avoids the 3-month waiting period on the way back.

  • ISO-compatible microchip

Your pet needs an ISO 11784/11785 microchip implanted before the rabies vaccination — order matters.

  • Rabies vaccination (to China)

A valid rabies vaccination is enough to enter China. The rabies antibody titre test (RNATT) is only required to return from China to the UK, not to travel to China.

  • Owner passport copy

GACC requires the pet to be linked to the owner's passport in the export documentation.

  • Approved ports of entry

Only Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and a handful of other ports currently accept live pets.

Common questions

What owners exporting to China ask us most.

An EHC 8902 is the official export document GACC (China Customs) requires to bring a pet into mainland China. It's signed by a DEFRA-registered Official Veterinarian (OV) and confirms your pet's microchip, rabies vaccination and general health, and links the pet to the owner's passport. A rabies antibody titre test is NOT required by China — it's only needed if you later return from China to the UK.

Flying to China in the next few months?

The EHC 8902 must be issued within GACC's short pre-flight window (typically 14 days) after DEFRA endorsement. Start early so microchip, rabies vaccination and paperwork line up with your flight date.
